1. I am a volunteer with the Department of Parks and Recreation but I’ve forgotten my password to log in. Can you help me?

Contact the Help Desk at 301-699-2255 for assistance in resetting your password. You may also request a Volunteer User Identification and Password card from any community center. This card has a space for you to record your user identification and password for future use.

2. How do I sign up to volunteer?

Visit the Volunteer Service Office page. Once you’ve selected a volunteer opportunity, click “sign up” and you’ll be asked to create an online volunteer application.

3. Can I earn Student Service Learning hours for volunteering?

Students can earn Student Service Learning hours for many volunteer opportunities. Search the “Student Service Learning” box to find those opportunities.

4. I have been court-ordered to volunteer. Can I volunteer with the Department of Parks and Recreation to satisfy the court order?

No.

5. Do I need a criminal background check to volunteer with Parks and Recreation?

Department policy requires that all individuals age 15 and older who volunteer and have access to children, seniors, or other vulnerable populations must undergo a criminal background check, including fingerprinting, before volunteer service can begin. Once you have been interviewed, the coordinator will schedule a time for you to be fingerprinted.
