Needs Assessment Survey Results

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Department of Parks and Recreation in Prince George’s County completed a Needs Assessment survey in January of 2022 to help establish priorities for the future development of parks and recreation facilities, programs, and services within Prince George’s County. The survey was conducted by ETC Institute, a national leader in parks and recreation needs assessments. 

Over 1,500 respondents provided feedback ranging from how they use our facilities to what types of programs and services are important. Here are a few top findings:

Park Usage Is Higher Than Other Communities.

90% of Households Have Visited Parks/Facilities in the Past Two Years (National Average Is 76%). The Department provided critically quality of life services during a community crisis by keeping our trails and park systems open for residents and visitors to recreate.

Satisfied with overall M-NCPPC value. 

More than 65% of residents are very satisfied or satisfied when asked to rate their satisfaction with the overall value their household receives from M-NCPPC. In comparison, 69% of respondents nationally would rate their experience with their local park and recreation agency as very satisfied or satisfied.slide15

WE AGREE! Quality Recreation is important. 

Over 80% of Residents Feel It’s Very Important for Prince Georges’ County to Provide High Quality Recreation Facilities and Programs.
