The conditions of approval for the Canter Creek Subdivision as outlined in PGCPB No. 12-102(A) SDP-1202 calls for the developer, Walton Development Company, to dedicate approximately 120 acres of open space for future trail development, 25-acres of land for a community park, and to contribute for the development of recreational facilities for the area. From November 2016 through September 2020, M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation in Prince George’s County held four (4) community meetings to obtain input from residents of Williamsburg Estates, Brookwood-Holloway Estates, and Canter Creek. Wishes of both those in favor and those opposed were carefully considered in the current redesign of the park. Grills, a pavilion, full basketball court, an athletic field, and parking were removed or modified from the design to address concerns raised by some. Residents were notified and invited to participate in the planning process for the past seven (7) years. Those communities were also notified regarding the initiation of the project construction before it began. The community park is slated to be completed by Spring 2024.
The Canter Creek Park project involves the development of a 25-acre parcel located within the new community of Canter Creek in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. The proposed park will consist of a playground, a loop trail, play courts, a terrace with seating areas, open space, and a parking lot.
The park will also include an 11-acre Woodland Preservation Area that will remain and serve as an enhancement to the recreational experience.
