Sandra BearsThursday, May 18, 2023, 12 noonSandra Bears, also known as Sandra Love (her solo artist stage name), is a native Washingtonian with a span of more than five decades in the music industry. She is one of the original founding members of DC’s fabulous female group of the 1960s, The Jewels. At 19 years old, the song “Opportunity” climbed the 1965 Billboard Charts. While performing with The Jewels at the world-famous Apollo Theater in New York City, they were hand-picked by the Godfather of Soul, James Brown, to tour with his famous James Brown Revue and they became his first female background singers. She continues to perform as a solo artist while recording and performing with The Jewels. Ms. Love excites audiences with her R&B, soul and blues songs, and her powerhouse stage presence.$12/person |
The annual recital series of classical music is a juried competition open to all classical musicians in the United States. Recitals take place in the Main Gallery at Montpelier Arts Center. Classical recitals are free, but a $5 donation per person is appreciated.
Jiin KimSaturday, April 29, 2023. 1 pmAward-winning Korean pianist Jiin Kim has performed nationally and internationally at places such as Carnegie Hall, Muirderslot in Holland, Musikhochschule Trossingen in Germany, and Flugel Hall in Korea. She earned her Master of Music degree from Peabody Conservatory where she received the Pauline Favine Memorial Award. Ms. Kim has participated in various festivals including Festival MusicAlp, the International Holland Music Session, and the Obidos International Piano Festival. Tanya LangloisSunday, May 21, 2023, 3 pmMezzo-soprano Tanya Langlois has been praised for her “wonderfully rich and expressive voice” by the DC Theater Scene. Some of her favorite roles she has performed include Dorabella in Mozart’s Così fan tutte with the Loudoun Lyric Opera, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni performed in Germany, and Hermia in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream with the Bay Area Summer Opera Theater Institute. As a soloist, Ms. Langlois has performed across the region with the Loudoun Chorale, Central Maryland Chorale, and Colgate University Chorale. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in voice from the University of Maryland and minored in piano performance. She also plays the cello and earned her Colleague Certification from the American Guild of Organists. FREE; $5/person appreciated |
