Formed in 1975, the Motorcycle Unit is a highly visible and mobile force used for selective duties; these include traffic enforcement, emergency calls for service, assistance to patrol officers, funeral and parade escorts, community events and school displays.
Training
Officers assigned to the Motorcycle Unit must successfully complete a two-week procedures and operation of police motorcycles course. The training is physically and mentally demanding and has a 60% failure rating. Park Police utilizes the Harley-Davidson Electra Glide police motorcycle. This vehicle provides reliable maneuverability in congested areas and restricted spaces with the required speed and handling of a police motorcycle.
